Welcome to Tom Atallah
Tom Atallah (21) from Maroubra, New South Wales, has a problem - he's living with Lee Peacock - but despite the rainy night that caused his first net session with the club to be abandoned everything was "no worries".
Off spinning all-rounder Tom plays second grade cricket for University of New South Wales and trains with the first grade squad (where he competes with a spinner who can bowl with both left and right arms). He's just finished three years of media studies and is moving on to law studies (long course) but says his ambition is do "something in sport".
Tom will be also be coaching juniors, our improving spinners and will play both Lincs Prem and Rutland games for Deeping.
Please say hello and buy him a beer ASAP.

Little Dog has bite
Nick Green, Captain of Leicestershire U11 (seen here bowling) led them to a stunning victory over Staffordshire at Kegworth. Staffs batted first and were bowled out for 150 after being 110-3. Nick bowled five 5 overs for 0-15 and took a catch. Then batting at two, he hit his second ball for four through the covers, the first of nine fours, and carried his bat for the 25 overs it took to knock off the 150 to win ending on 65*. Under 12s champions of the East
Lords Taverners U12 Indoor Cricket East Anglian
tournament
Deeping won the BCYCA Indoor league to earn the right to represent Lincolnshire at this elite event. The Holy Grail had always eluded ‘The Special One’ but Karl Green delivered at his first attempt. The squad was Nicholas Green, Sam Malton, Eleanor Crawford, Josh Lewis, William Stables, and Adam Castle.
The Tournament consisted of three group games against teams from Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex. In previous years MDCC has sent some all star teams and this one had potential but with lower expectations. The difference, it turned out, was self belief and team ethic.
In previous years we have failed from the first delivery - which has set the tone for the day - but this year Nick Green delivered the 1st and last delivery with great effect.
MDCC hit the ground running in the first game against Mallards CC, despite the 9am start time. Nick and Eleanor set a solid base with Josh and Will following in the same fashion allowing Sam and Adam to carry on the good start. They all scored steadily through the first innings, giving a total of 76 without losing a wicket. Mallards began well, not losing a wicket in the first four overs, however Eleanor's first ball of the tournament led to a catch by Josh, and another catch to Adam followed a few balls later.
Mallards never got back into the game, with MDCC winning by 30 runs. The confidence was evident to see and they took that straight into the next game.
This started within five minutes against Copdock CC. MDCC again batted first with the same partnerships with Nick and Eleanor who was stumped in the second over. Josh and Will batted well without losing a wicket before Sam and Adam came in. Adam was bowled taking the score to 68-2 against an excellent attack especially Copdock's opening bowler. The running between the wickets was superb and proved crucial to the result. Copdock batted well, but just as they seemed to be making the game safe Deeping struck back at crucial moments keeping the game alive. Copdock required seven off the last over with Will Stables given the responsibility. As well as taking a sharp catch earlier in the field, he then delivered a perfect over backed up by some outstanding fielding with Deeping scraping home by the narrow margin of three runs.
Scenting the possibility of reaching the final and with self belief, confidence was high and against Shenfield MDCC put in their strongest batting performance of the day gave a total of 99 from their 10 overs. Deeping followed up that with a less than par 5 over’s, with Shenfield up with the required rate until Deeping broke through with a flurry to eventually win by 40 runs.
This set up a clash in the final against last year's winners, St Giles who were unbeaten also and started as tournament favorites.
Reaching the final was an achievement in itself. St Giles team consisted of six Cambridgeshire players while Deeping also were represented by six county players so the standard was high and both teams were evenly matched. MDCC won the toss and opted to bat first. Nicholas and Eleanor lost just the one wicket, Josh and William in the excitement walked off after two overs and had to return to complete their three which proved vital as Josh hit the first ball for six off a no ball. With runs difficult to find against a good variety of bowling Sam and Adam performed well for the last four overs, with Sam working the ball to all areas, and Adam backing him up with some quick running setting a moderate 72-2.
MDCC took an early wicket but St Giles were slowly controlling the game. Some tight bowling and fielding meant they did not pull to far away, and Deeping came to life Eleanor made a fine stop in the field, deflecting the ball to Josh who threw the ball to Sam who ran out the stranded batsman. On the last ball Deeping moved one of the legside fielders to point, which turned out to be tactical genius as an attempt to work the next delivery to the vacant legside gap saw the ball lofted off a leading edge for a simple catch - two wickets in two balls and game on. The final pair required 17 runs from four overs from their strongest pair which looked a formality. Adam bowled the seventh over and the pair picked off the runs - all they needed to do. Then a legside deliverysaw Sam whip off the bails with the batsmen out of his crease and the pressure was building.
With the St Giles manager loudly advising his team that they needed 11 off the last 2 overs to win. William Stables gave the MDCC followers hope as he surrendered only three runs in the penultimate over.
It was down to the death with Nick who had delivered the first over to deliver the last with eight required from six balls. No run off the first ball was followed by a run, two dot balls then a single off the fifth leaving 6 to win from the last ball. Deeping reset the field and St Giles only managed to hit the side for two plus a completed a run which left Deeping MDCC winning by 1 run.
It was an unbelievable game which could have gone either way but a stunning team performance and spirit carried them to a deserved victory.
All the players performed fantastically on the day and were a joy to coach on the day. Eleanor became the first girl to be in a winning team, Josh and Adam produced solid all round performances. Nick batted very well setting a solid platform and delivered at the start and finish with the ball. Sam was outstanding behind the stumps taking nine stumpings and a catch, standing up all game. The bowling was consistent and backed up by some impressive fielding taking every catch that came our way.
The batting showed maturity beyond their years playing proper cricket shots and not panicking when they lost a wicket.
William had to bowl two overs in very close finishes, catches were taken at critical moments, and there was a terrific team spirit (although no one hugged Eleanor) everyone showed a very mature attitude and didn’t show any nerves in a tight final. The way the team thanked the organisers, umpires and Lords Taverners who sponsored the event after the game which did not go unnoticed.
MDCC players were presented with a medal each and the club received a junior kit bag containing £300 worth of equipment, presented to Karl Green by the Lords Taverners. More pictures in gallery - click here.
